Air passenger duty has been frozen until 2012

George Brown has delayed the recent plans to increase air passenger duty (APD) until 2012.

APD has been increasing each year since 2007 in line with inflation. The UK’s APD has reached a point where it is now 8.5 times higher the European average.

A further increase would have affected holidaymakers, however the freeze on APD now looks good for those looking to leave Britain for a break. It does however seem as though luxury and business travellers will be suffering for the APD freeze. George Brown did mention that APD will be imposed on business flights.

This freeze on APD will hopefully leave all of you holidaymakers a little more money to take with you on holiday now. So don’t forget your travel money cards when you go abroad!
